There comes a time when we all just get tired. We get tired of fighting, of trying. We get tired of running forward and doing what is right when no one is looking. The majority of the time, we get tired because we have done these things trying to achieve greater heights of perceived success. We keep getting told “NO.” No, you can’t do that. No, you can’t get that new promotion you want and worked hard for. No, you are only worth X amount of dollars so you will only earn that much. No, no, no. We get told these things by people that have placed their value at a higher rate than most due to the positions of hierarchy that they have. Most of the time, these positions were attained not by the quality of work that they put out daily. They attained these positions of power by their connections and relationships to others. The manager passes you up for that promotion because her friend applied. Or, her sister applied for the position so she asked her friend, a manager in that area of business, to hire her. And while this happens, we become upset. We become frustrated, angry, sadden, and tired. We begin to believe that we are not worth what we initially thought. “They must be right, I’m not ready.” So we spend years working in remedial work. We work hard to perfect our crafts and learn to enjoy the quality of work that we have, at the bottom, below those who told us we don’t belong in a position where we can manage others. We become ashamed, and embarrassed of our shortcomings. Here’s the thing… You are worth it. All those years that you spent perfecting your remedial tasks at the ground level, below those who manage you… They were not in vain. While that manager felt that task was so small and passed it off to you… she failed to realize the skills that she allowed you to learn in doing it. She allowed you to develop them, and therefore you now have a new skill that may benefit you in another area. There’s nothing to be ashamed about. You have an amazing skill set that you have acquired throughout years of being told “No.” You have struggled, survived, and continued to learn more about you, and the company that you work for. Your hands may be wary, the lines on your face may have deepened, and your hair may have grown grey. That does not devalue you one bit. In fact, you have grown to a strength that those above you who scuff cannot achieve. All those tasks, and problems that were left to you… they are ammunition. Thank you for holding strong, and being the person that you are. You have incredible resilience. Your life is admirable by all measures, not just the measures at a job that does not appreciate the person that you are. You have continually inspired younger individuals (like myself) to become greater than the job on hand. So thank you for everything you do, and please, continue to do it. Hey Yari- I'm looking for work clothes
